Orange Park seawall and bulkhead planning
The Town of Orange Park faces a wide, shallow reach of the St. Johns River. Daily tides are small, but Irma set a 5.2-foot record at the nearby Buckman Bridge gauge.

Orange Park is an incorporated town in Clay County on the west bank of the St. Johns River, south of the Buckman Bridge and north of the mouth of Doctors Lake. Census records about 3.6 square miles of land and 1.7 square miles of water. Here the river’s daily tide range is only about 1 foot, and its water is brackish to nearly fresh.

Assess for storm saturation and fresh-water borers
The NWS gauge at the Buckman Bridge counts minor flooding from 1.5 feet above normal high water. Its record is 5.2 feet from Irma in 2017, followed by Nicole at 3.57 feet. Long, wide river fetch and multi-day nor’easter water can soak backfill behind a wall, so ask the assessor to look for washed-out fill and open joints. Even near-fresh water is not safe for timber: Florida Sea Grant found the borer Sphaeroma favors low-salinity and tidal-fresh sites. Wood-Boring Marine and Estuarine Animals in Florida (SGEB-15)
What could the work cost?
River walls here are often long with docks attached; get dock reconnection and access priced with the wall.
Published prices are attributed planning context from contractors’ own pages, not a measured Jacksonville average or this website’s quote. Ranges differ about five-fold between publishers; your written, itemized scope decides the real number.
