How we record sources, storm data, prices and map data.

How the research is recorded

We prioritize original city, county, state and federal records. Each fact keeps its publisher, link, jurisdiction, check date and limitations. Historical storm crests and public project budgets are labeled with their dates; they are not presented as today’s conditions.

Where official pages disagree, we say so. For example, FEMA’s current Community Rating System list and the City of Jacksonville’s floodplain page describe the discount differently.

Map sources

Map land comes from U.S. Census county geometry minus Census water features. Markers identify communities using USGS named-place points.

Price evidence stays in its original scope

Published prices keep their publisher, geography, unit and stated scope. Ranges from different firms are never averaged into a single “Jacksonville price,” and public project budgets are never converted into residential rates. The calculator uses your own written quote unless you choose a published row as context.

Corrections

A useful correction identifies the page, the statement and the official record that supports the change. We review corrections against the original source and update the check date when a fact changes.
